Media Alert: Media conference to launch week of action

A newly-formed coalition, the End Occupation Campaign, will hold a media conference tomorrow - Thursday, 24 may 2007 - to announce details of its planned week of action for the 4th - 9th June 2007.

The media conference will be addressed by, among others, Intelligence Minister Ronnie Kasrils, Palestinian Ambassador Ali Halimeh and Cosatu President Willie Madisha. It will take place at the Cosatu Head Office, 1 Leyds Street, Braamfontein at 12pm (midday) on Thursday, 24th May 2007.

The week of action coincides with activities around world commemorating the occupation by Israel of the West Bank, Gaza, East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights. The 9th and 10th June have been identified by the International Coordinating Network on Palestine and the Anti-War Forum of the World Social Forum as days of action to protest the occupation. In South Africa, the week of action will culminate in activities across the country on the 9th June.

The coalition includes: the Palestine Solidarity Committee, African National Congress, South African Communist Party, Cosatu, Media Review Network, Muslim Youth Movement, Palestine Solidarity Alliance, Muslim Judicial Council, Friends of Al-Aqsa, Palestine Solidarity Group, Not In My Name, Young Communist League, ANC Youth League.
